Am I a good fit for you? Generic training plans are everywhere these days, but workouts on a calendar are only the first step and you deserve more. Ask any top athlete and you’ll find that it’s the one on one communication and personal relationship with the coach that are the real keys to your success. To meet my athlete’s needs I believe it is critical to maintain an open door and unlimited contact coaching model so that you will always feel you have my support. I generally tell clients that I will get back to them via email or Training Peaks in 1-3 business days and for urgent questions you will also have my cell phone number. Are you a good fit for me? The main things I’m looking for when taking on a new client are a strong desire to improve and a willingness to change current habits. I’ll work with athletes of any ability or sport provided they have both of these qualities and are ready to embrace the process of improving themselves. How it works? My coaching program is "high-touch" with a lot of coach/athlete interaction via daily workout analysis and comments on Training Peaks. Training Peaks is also where you will receive your custom training plans that work around your life schedule and time availability. Workout prescriptions will be based on your specific Heart Rate, Pace or Power zones. I will analyze and provide feedback on each workout and modify the upcoming workout goals based on the adaptations I see in your daily files. Once I start working with an athlete I put together a season plan that outlines the major races or goal events for that athlete. From that outline I can then build in the various progressive periodization cycles that will get the athlete ready for those highlighted events. When possible I like to provide my athletes multiple week blocks of training at a time. I've found this gives athletes a more global view of their training than a single week or a few days at a time provides. Athletes can then see what is coming from an emotional commitment perspective and be mentally prepared. It also allows them to successfully schedule busy family and work lives in a way that maximizes their ability to fit future high value training into their lives rather than the reverse. I consider that initial plan "live" and it will certainly change as things come up in the training or in life. |
There is more to the art of coaching and training than just the data!
To get the most out of our relationship I ask that my athletes are fully engaged in the process, by both uploading files regularly, but also by providing context to the workout data with feedback about how the workout was executed and more importantly how it felt. This communication back and forth allows us to develop a strong rapport so I can get to know you better as an athlete and further customize your training over time. These notes also serve as a training log for me to see what total load you are actually under, as opposed to the one I think you are just based on the prescribed training calendar. With frequent communication we can adjust for your total life load as needed to stop things like overtraining before it happens. |
